There once was a little boy, his name was Bobby. He was an adopted at 11 months old. his mom and dad gave him green book to read, but Bobby did not know how to read. Bobby asked his mother to read the green book to him. his mother would read the book to him over and over again. It was his favorite bed time story.
Bobby brought the green book everywhere he went. He carried the book as if it were a treasure. After all, it was a gift to him! He would cover the book in his blanket and try to bring it to bed when he took a nap. He looked at all the pictures not knowing what they meant but yet that green book was important to Bobby.
He did everything with that book. He to used it for coloring. He would scribble on one page in red and another using blue. Each page ended up with another color on it. It was beautiful to him. It was his story, who he was.
A couple of years went by, and Bobby still had the green book. Now, pages had been ripped and some even missing from it. The green book became just another one of the toys. When he was done playing, he had to put it away, back into his toy box. He still looked at the pictures and did not know what they meant.
One day Bobby was sitting watching his favorite cartoon and a stork came flying in with a baby. this got little Bobby thinking “Where do babies come from!” Bobby thought and thought and thought some more. Finally, Bobby went running to the kitchen where his Mommy was sitting and asked her “Where do babies come from? Where did I come from? did the stork bring me?” Bobby was full of questions that day.
Bobby thought that is would just hear “No, the stork did not bring you!” but to his surprise his Mommy said “We adopted you!” The next words out of Bobby’s mouth were “What is adopted Mommy?” That is when his mother sat Bobby down and explained it all to him. She talked to him about the little green book that was so important to him, not that long ago.
Bobby your Daddy and I were searching for a baby, a baby just like you. with brown eyes and brown hair and a happy smile just like yours. we searched all over, until we found what we where looking for. That was you!
Bobby at that point was feeling mighty special and yet he asked “What is adopted, Mommy?” “Well, Bobby” his mother went on to explain “Adopted, is when two people that truly love their baby can not afford to give a good life to the baby will give them up for adoption. they made this sacrifice, to give the baby a better life with another family. Then a Mommy and Daddy who can not have a baby of their own look and look for prefect baby to adopt and take home. you are very special. you are our prefect baby. we love you so much that we adopted you. you are special because you have 4 parents that really love you.”
Bobby, being a big thinker, thought and thought and thought very hard about what he had just learned. The next day Bobby went outside and told all his friends what he had found out. saying to all of them “I am adopted” all the kids in a neighborhood had all kinds of questions about what adopted is. Bobby told each one of them how special it was to be adopted. He went on to tell them how much love he had because he was adopted. I have 2 mommies and 2 daddies all loving me.
They all went home that day and asked their mommies and daddies if they where adopted like Bobby. One by one, they found out that no one else was adopted, just Bobby. Bobby was so special he was the only kid in the whole neighborhood that was lucky enough to be adopted.
If you are wondering, why I am telling you this story. It is that you are very special too. you are adopted just like Bobby. Now, isn’t that something, too?I done did it. Yeah, I did! – Author Robert Ruisi
