UPDATE @ 6:40 a.m. 10/26ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) — A West Virginia Forestry Officer who was fired on by a person with a rifle has been fired from his job.
Two suspects are still on the run. the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department says it knows who the suspects, a man and a woman, are. Both are convicted felons.
It started sometime before midnight Tuesday. According to deputies, the incident began in Putnam County near Possum Hollow. Police say the forestry officer said his friends called him to check on a fire. He was never officially called in for work, but took his work truck and claims he was on the job. the fire turned out to be a bonfire party in the woods.
At the party, an argument started with a group of people in a white van. That’s when the van drove off and hit a man, who was not seriously hurt.
The forestry officer and his friends got into his truck and began chasing the van, all the way to St. Albans. when the truck cornered the van, the driver of the van backed up and hit the truck. Deputies say the man then got out of the van with a rifle and fired shots.
Deputies picked up pursuit of the white van until it stopped along Fairview rd and a man and woman ran off. There were two other people in the van who were detained, but will not face charges.
The forestry officer admitted to deputies he had been drinking a took a breathalyzer test. Deputies would not tell WSAZ.com the results of that test. A Division of Forestry supervisor arrived at the scene and fired the officer.

UPDATE @ 1:15 a.m. 10/26ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) — Two people detained after someone fired a rifle at a West Virginia Forestry Officer will not face charges in the case.
A Kanawha County Sheriff’s Deputy tells WSAZ.com the pair were not involved in any crime.
The search continues, however, for two people who ran away on foot after being stopped by police.
They are believed to have been involved in an incident where a rifle was fired at a West Virginia Forestry Officer.
In the suspects’ vehicle, investigators found a .22 caliber rifle, some shells and a knife.

UPDATE @ 12:35 a.m. 10/26ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) — Two suspects are in custody after someone fired a rifle at a West Virginia Forestry Officer.
Kanawha County 911 dispatchers tell WSAZ.com two people were arrested following a short chase. Two others ran away on foot and are still at large.
St. Albans Police, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, and DNR officers are all on the scene on Fairview Drive near Strawberry Road in St. Albans.

ORIGINAL STORY @ 12:20 a.m. 10/26ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) — Law enforcement are looking for two or three people who are on the run after firing a rifle at a West Virginia Forestry Officer.
It happened just after midnight Wednesday near Hayes Middle School.
Kanawha County 911 dispatchers tell WSAZ.com the suspects’ vehicle has been stopped by law enforcement on Fairview Drive just before Strawberry Road. the suspects jumped out and ran away on foot.
They do have at least one weapon.
